The US technology company has a plan to cut jobs in the Portuguese market, confirmed an official source. More than a hundred jobs may be at stake.

However, another source familiar with the technology’s plans said that more than a hundred jobs may be at stake. Observador mentions 112 jobs affected by the cut.

“We do not take decisions like this lightly. We are working closely with impacted employees to ensure they are treated with respect and have our full support during these transitions,” Microsoft’s official source said.

Questioned about the areas that will be affected by the layoff plan, Microsoft stresses only that “the cuts impact employees from more than one team, with different functions and seniority levels. The company does not indicate, therefore, which departments are most affected by the decision to reduce staff.

In light of this, Microsoft adds, “Organizational adjustments are a regular, necessary part of our business. We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future, supporting our customers and partners,” stresses the company led in Portugal by Andrés Ortolá.

In the middle of last year, Microsoft directly employed just over 1,500 people in the country, according to a study prepared by EY at the request of the company, which aimed to measure the economic and social impact of the technology in this territory.

Layoffs at major American technology companies have been a trend over the past few months, in the context of rising interest rates and inflation. In January, Microsoft in the US announced the dismissal of 10,000 people, having weighed in the decision the prospects of slowing revenue growth.
