Youth unemployment fell 0.3% in July compared to the previous month, to 27,609, the second lowest figure ever, but total unemployment rose 2.4%, according to data from the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) released today.
“In July, youth unemployment fell (-0.3%) compared to the previous month, reaching the second lowest level ever (27,609 young people registered with the IEFP), only surpassed by the figure for July 2022, when the historical low in youth unemployment was reached,” the institute said in a statement today.
In turn, total unemployment rose by 2.4% compared to June, to 284,330 people.
However, this is the second lowest figure for the month since records began.
In July, long-term unemployment rose by 2.5% compared to the previous month, but fell by 13.5% year-on-year.
